The upcoming Paul Feig Directed Ghostbusters film doesn't seem to tie-in to the previous Ghostbusters movies, but that doesn't mean the original crew doesn't make an appearance.

In a new UK TV spot for the film, which takes place 30 years after the events of Ghostbusters II, original Ghostbuster Dan Ackroyd (who played Dr. Raymond Stantz in the first two) is seen pulling up in a cab to Kristen Wiig's location, where she says: "Those are actual ghosts!:

Ackroyd fittingly responds with: I ain't afraid of no ghosts."

That is the extent of the cameo shown in the trailer, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's the end of the cameo in the film. I would love to see him be a recurring character throughout, popping up in random spots where the city is going crazy with ghost attacks. That would be a greater payoff than just this one-off scene.

Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman) is also supposed to have a cameo, as is Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddermore), but no information is out yet on what those cameos will end up being. If they follow suit with the current strategy, we will probably see pieces of those cameos show up in TV spots soon. I imagine the idea is to build up some goodwill with previous fans of the franchise.

The Paul Feig Ghostbusters reboot stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. The film will hit theatres on July 15th.
