ABC's Once Upon a Time is shifting into a longer-form, more epic gear for Season 6.

The series, which has typically featured two distinct storylines in the first and second halves of the season, will no have a number of shorter stories, running all season long and feeding into a bigger threat, according to EW.

"This season is going to be different from past because it's not going to be Hyde comes to town, we fight with him for 10 episodes, and then in the winter finale, he dies and we move on," showrunner Edward Kitsis said. "We are changing around what we're doing this year and going back to that season 1 mentality of small town stories and smaller arcs."

"We're also planning a 22-episode story as opposed to breaking it up into two halves this year. It's been really exciting and fun," said showrunner Adam Horowitz.

Another key change for the season is a focus -- teased in the back half of Season Five -- on the Land of Untold Stories which, rather than pushing more traditional and well-known heroes out of focus, will allow the showrunners to examine familiar characters in a different way.

Me? I'm still a little amused that all these years after doing the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Kryptonian Hyde thing as Smallville's Davis Bloom and Doomsday, it's Sam Witwer who will depict Hyde in the sixth season of Once Upon a Time.

Once Upon A Time will return this fall on ABC, airing Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
