Learn How To Make Your Own Ant-Man Helmet

Most of us can fashion an impromptu screwdriver out of a kitchen knife when the situation calls for it, but it takes an imaginative person to look at all the various things lying around your house and visualize the creation of something else entirely, like say, an Ant-Man helmet.

That's exactly what Instructables' Mikaela Holmes set about doing after she watched the Paul Rudd-starring superhero film Ant-Man (via Makezine).

"Not long after seeing Ant Man over the summer, I found a video online about how to create an Ant Man helmet at home. I thought it looked like a fun challenge and I wanted to try making my own version. I've always liked taking recycled objects and trying to reimagine them into an elevated and unrecognizable form. There is something very satisfying and magical about this transformation, it makes you think about the objects around you in a new way, and it's a fun treasure hunt to find what you need."

"There is no one way to make this project, and a lot of objects will work for the various parts of the helmet." she continued. "I'll show you what materials I used and suggest some others that I think might be good options. No matter what, the Ant Man helmet you create will be unique to you, because all superheroes should have a hand in writing their own origin story."

Using that as a starting point, she gathered everyday household materials like suction cup hooks, ashtrays, plastic protractors, an Arizona tea jug, and tons of duct tape to form the shape of her helmet. The most impressive parts of the helmet are the head slats, which she formed by cutting out pieces of the tea jug and then surrounding them in silver duct tape, to give them a metallic feel and also to improve the durability. They look so real, and it's crazy to think it was a jug of tea at one point. The same jug forms the major part of the front mask, with an old respirator forming the mouth piece.
