Three months ago, filming commenced on Sony Pictures Entertainment and Media Rights Capital's The Dark Tower, a feature film adaptation of Stephen King's series of novels of the same name. At that time, filming took place in South Africa, but at the end of last month, production headed to New York City, where its two biggest stars, Idris Elba (Thor: The Dark World) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), have been spotted in-costume filming scenes — separately.

On Monday, producer Ron Howard (Rush) shared a new photo of himself posing with Elba — who was dressed in his gunslinger outfit, featuring a long black leather coat — and The Dark Tower's director, Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair).

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World's last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World's post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum. It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The film stars Idris Elba stars as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. The cast also includes Kathryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, Claudia Kim, Tom Taylor, and Jackie Earle Haley.

The Dark Tower film is shooting now for a January 13, 2017 release.
