Pokemon GO Player Nearly Hit By Driver Also Playing Pokemon GO

Two wrongs don't make a right. So, if you have two people playing Pokemon GO in a parking lot at 2 AM, you can guess something is going to go wrong. And, when you consider one of those players was in a car, the odds just get worse. Luckily, though, a Canadian woman playing Pokemon GO avoided being hit by a car whose driver was also playing the game.

South Simcoe Police were called to Innisfil Beach Park early this morning after receiving a call from a woman who'd been playing Pokemon GO while standing in a parking lot. Speaking with the woman, she recounted her story before the car that nearly hit her returned to the scene. The driver then admitted he'd been playing Pokemon GO and hadn't seen the lady while he was turning his vehicle.

The police precinct sent out a tweet regarding the incident, reminding players to put away their phones when they're behind the wheel. They wrote, "PokemonGo player nearly stuck by another in a car in a parking lot at 2:00 a.m. #PokemonDont drive while playing!"

As no crash actually occurred, there weren't any charges pressed against the driver. Police are still asking trainers be vigilant when playing the app and to exercise simple common sense. And, considering the number of accidents - vehicular or otherwise - that've been linked to Pokemon GO, the police's pleas should be heeded.

Just last week, Baltimore police had a run-in with a distracted Pokemon GO player who crashed their vehicle into a parked police car. Camera footage captured the crash, and in other places, police departments have distributed safety flyers to gamers. Warning of pick-pockets and educating gamers on heatstroke symptoms, Japan is the latest country to provide safety guidelines for Pokemon GO trainers as the app continues to grow in popularity.
