New Persona 5 Trailer Highlights Summoning System & Mini-Games

Even though Persona 5 won't be released in the U.S. until February 14th, Atlus has been steadily gearing up for the game's upcoming September 15th release in Japan. To get fans ready for the franchise's next installment, the company has just uploaded two new gameplay videos which showcase the title's summoning system and brand-new fishing mini-game.

The first gameplay video shows characters such as Morgana, Ryuji, Anne, Yusuke, and Makoto summoning their individual Personas. As it was with the franchise's past installments, Persona 5 will allow players to take part in turn-based combat by using the physical manifestations of their psyches. These summons, which are aptly named Personas, are used by the game's Phantom Thieves of Hearts, a group of outlaw-ish teens looking to take down the corruption lingering within adults' hearts. However, the kids all come to find that the corruption they've been trying to eliminate goes further than they'd expected, leading them straight to a mysterious figure who's power threatens to kill them all.

As for Persona 5's new mini-game, viewers can watch as The Protagonist (AKA: You, the player) is sent on a little mission to catch fish in Ichigaya. No doubt, Morgana may have some less-than-honorable intentions for the fish considering his feline appetite, but it looks like players might get in-game bonuses should they feed the adorable cat. It's either that or the mini-game will likely provide XP pushes to the player's social link progression. Either way, the mechanics for the mini-game seem to work more fluidly than past attempts, so there's something to look forward to.

Featuring animation sequences from Production I.G studio, Persona 5 stands to excite the many gamers who were impressed with Persona 4. The previous game earned rave reviews from all over the world and even spawned off a popular anime adaptation. Persona 5 will also be attached to an anime special entitled Persona 5 the Animation - The Day Breakers - that will act as a preface to the game's storyline.
