It's no secret that in the later episodes of The Walking Dead's sixth season, Rick Grimes got a little (for lack of a better word) cocky. His overconfidence shined through, especially as he cared for an ill Maggie Greene and told her, "We can do anything."

Well, it turns out, they couldn't do anything. In fact, they could do very little with Negan nearby. To cap the sixth season, Rick's overconfident choices landed himself and his family of survivors at the mercy of Negan, which is certainly not a pleasant spot.

Following The Walking Dead's Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic Con last weekend, Andrew Lincoln was asked his thoughts about Rick's decisions looking back at them. Admittedly, he can see the overconfidence, but he stands by his character.

"I think it was probably the right thing to do but with too much pride behind it," Lincoln says, though now Lincoln believes Rick is "powerless for the first time."

Starting season 7, we will see a broken down Rick Grimes, which is essentially the complete opposite of the one we had been hanging out with on Sunday nights for multiple seasons now. "Everything he's fought and bled for and had family members die for, everything that he's worked for two years to get to, has been shattered in 24 hours," Lincoln explains. "He's not a in a good space. If he makes it through the first episode, he's different. He will be a different man."

The Walking Dead will return for its seventh season October 23 at 9 PM ET on AMC. For complete coverage, insider info, and more all season long, be sure to follow me on Twitter @BrandonDavisBD and check out The Walking Dead on ComicBook.com on Facebook.
