Fans responses to The Walking Dead's Season 6 finale have been mixed, to say the least. Many of the more vocal fans have taken to comment sections in all corners of the Internet to voice their dissatisfaction.

Those unhappy fans won't be feeling the same grief and irritation following Season 7. According to The Walking Dead's writer and creator Robert Kirkman, the show won't leave audiences with a major cliffhanger following Season 7 like it did this past April.

"As a creative person, I have to acknowledge that all responses are valid," Kirkman says in the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly. "I definitely have to take note that there's a seemingly significant portion of the audience that wasn't happy with that direction, so in that respect I think everyone on the Walking Dead creative team has taken note of that, and I don't know that I would expect a similar cliff-hanger at the end of season 7."

Now, that's not to say the season won't end on some sort of open ended moment, as all previous seasons of The Walking Dead have. It just doesn't sound like a gun is going to go off with our survivors in a row, not knowing who will take the bullet.

The frustration with The Walking Dead's midseason cliffhanger is quite surprising. The previous season left the group reuniting with a curious new version of Morgan Jones with Rick Grimes taking over Alexandria, a year before that they were locked in the cannibals' train car, and prior to those seasons a farm would burn down, a building would explode, or the group's home would otherwise be destroyed leaving them scattered and homeless. It seems the future for The Walking Dead characters is always in question but Season 6 really knocked the notion out of the park.

The Walking Dead will return for its seventh season October 23 at 9 PM ET on AMC. For complete coverage, insider info, and more all season long, be sure to follow me on Twitter @BrandonDavisBD and check out The Walking Dead on ComicBook.com on Facebook.
