Batarangs In Airport Luggage Causing TSA Crackdown

One of the most popular aspects of Batman is that while it isn't by any means easy, the average person could realistically become him.

Granted, your Batmobile might be a pimped out Dodge Neon, and you're probably more likely to find an abandoned Dairy Queen with some B- food grade slips on the walls as opposed to a large underground cave filled with Bats to set up shop in. Still, with an immense amount of training and dedication, you could technically become the Dark Knight.

That extends to his weapons and gear as well. While that shark repellent might be out of reach, things like his grappling gun, smoke pellets, and Batarangs are more than possible, and just take some ingenuity and know-how. While that's all well and good, the TSA would like to inform you that your Batman inspired gear is not welcome at the airport. At least not in your carry on.

Whether it's for cosplay, as gifts, or for defensive purposes, Batarangs have been showing up more frequently in Airports around the country (via THR). The TSA has made a point to share some of their findings via social media, with the reminder that they don't care if you bring them with you to your destination of choice, just that you'll need to put it in your checked luggage.

"Passengers are not allowed to bring anything on a plane that resembles a weapon, so anything like a boomerang or anything like that would not be permitted in the airplane cabin," Mike England, a TSA spokesman, told Heat Vision.

The Salt Lake City International airport had this to say about the trend. "Batarangs are becoming more and more common and it's important that you know they're prohibited in carry-on bags. They can be placed in your checked baggage along with your grapple gun, bat-saw, collapsible bat-sword, and other utility belt items." You can see some of the Batarangs in the posts below.

#TSAGoodCatch - These #batarangs were discovered in a carry-on bag at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF). While all throwing weapons are prohibited from carry-on bags, they may be packed in checked bags as long as they don’t violate any local laws.

#TSAGoodCatch - Our officers found some more batarangs this week. This time it was at Boise (BOI) when 4 batarangs were discovered in a carry-on bag. For those not in the know, a batarang is a bat-shaped throwing weapon used by the Caped Crusader.

Here's the thing. The TSA has made it clear that you can't bring Batarangs on the plane, so next time make sure to stick those in your checked luggage and bring Captain America's shield instead. That way, even if someone has a Batarang, you can easily block it. You'll be the Dwight Schrute of the flight, and everyone will love you.

On second thought, don't do that either.
