With Suicide Squad holding up moviegoers this weekend, the box office is now bursting with cash. And, of course, Warner Bros. is the one benefiting from the film's turnout. The studio officially broke the $1 billion mark this year as Suicide Squad's $135.1 million opening led it to the milestone.

In fact, this is the 16th consecutive year Warner Bros. has grossed $1 billion at the domestic box office. And, in the past 18 years, Warner Bros. has met that benchmark 17 times to set an industry best. Clearly, their decision to partner with DC Entertainment over the super-villain flick was a wise one as the film is already breaking all sorts of records.

Suicide Squad is hands-down the best selling release of an August film. The film's total weekend tickets sales totals an insane $230 million dollars, beating out the closest record-holder by a cool $30 million. Fandango has also confirmed Suicide Squad had the most pre-sale tickets sold for any film ever during the month of August.

Despite an influx of critical (and controversial!) reviews, Suicide Squad continues to stun fans all over the U.S. The film may tote a lowly Rotten rating of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes, but fans are championing the film as a fun, dangerous romp. Fans' word-of-mouth and active online chatter is what will ultimately give Suicide Squad the third-highest opening of 2016 behind Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

And, what's more, Suicide Squad now sits as one of only seven films this year to open with over $100 million. And, when you look worldwide, Suicide Squad has opened to the tune of $267.1 million, making it the studio's second-highest global opener behind Batman v Superman.

Earlier this week, industry professionals predicted Suicide Squad to pull in an opening of about $140 million, so it appears their guess was correct. Now, fans can only wait as Warner Bros. begins prepping for their next superhero flick, The Justice League, which is set to release next November.
