For those unfamiliar with Pokemon history, Junichi Masuda composed most of the music and sound effects used in the Pokemon games. He's also directed several core Pokemon games like Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and Pokemon X & Y and is one of the Game Freak employees who have final approval over all new Pokemon designs. Masuda also assisted with Pokemon Go by composing a new soundtrack, giving the game an upbeat tempo to encourage players to walk. However, some fans might have gotten the wrong idea about the level of involvement he (and his parent company Game Freak) has with Pokemon Go.

In a blog post written late last week, Masuda told Pokemon Go players that he has no direct involvement in the game's ongoing development and directed their questions to Niantic Labs, the company who actually developed the popular mobile app. Because of the deluge of comments he's received related to Pokemon Go, Masuda also temporarily shut down comments on his blog. Masuda's blog is typically reserved for sharing fun stories and experiences about working on the Pokemon games, so it was probably jarring to see comments from fans upset with Pokemon Go's many perceived problems.

This isn't the first time that confusion has arisen over the ownership of the Pokemon Go app. After Nintendo's stock value doubled because of Pokemon Go's success, the company released a statement clarifying it only had a 13% ownership share in the game.

However, Masuda was involved with promoting Pokemon Go, appearing at E3 to show off some of the game's features and appearing in the game's official launch video, so the confusion is understandable.
