Last year, CW Seed entered the world of cartoons to introduce the world to Vixen. The beloved DC Comics heroine gained a cult following and prompted the network to renew the animated series for a second season. However, fans have been waiting for an update on the show's release date, leaving some to wonder if Vixen was ever going to return - until now, that is. In a recent social media snafu, the release date for Vixen apparently leaked but was then quickly retracted.

Yesterday, a curious fan took to Twitter and asked CW Seed when Vixen will return for its second season. The network responded with a short message that read "October 14th," essentially confirming the series would return sooner than expected. However, the tweet was quickly deleted as CW Seed admitted, "We spoke too fast. But coming soon."

For many, the retraction was not something they wanted to hear. Fans have been waiting for awhile now to catch the second season of Vixen, and hype for the hero has only grown since her on-screen debut. Megalyn Echikunwoke, who voices Vixen, brought the character to The CW in Arrow last year. And, what's more, a new iteration of the character played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers will be featured in Legends of Tomorrow next season.

Considering CW Seed took back their words, it could be that the network is doing one of two things. The show may still be slated for an early October premiere, but they might not be able to confirm the date. Or, more likely, the show has been been pushed backwards (or forwards) to accommodate the return of The CW's live-action line up. After all, Legends of Tomorrow is slated to return to television on October 13th.

For now, fans will have to live through the first season of Vixen and fall back on a special teaser trailer they received during San Diego Comic Con. CW Seed dropped footage of the show's next season which showed The Flash and Firestorm teaming up with Vixen to take down a baddie called Weather Wizard.

Originally from Africa, Mari McCabe's parents were killed by local greed, corruption, and wanton violence. But the orphaned Mari refuses to succumb to the terrors surrounding her. Inheriting her family's Tantu Totem, Mari can access the powers of animals -- anything from the super-strength of a gorilla to the speed of a cheetah. As Vixen, she fights valiantly to protect the world from the threats like those that claimed her family.

Based on characters from DC Comics, Vixen is produced by Blue Ribbon Content and Warner Bros. Animation alongside executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kriesberg.
