For the past couple of years, it seems like Nicholas Hoult has been in hundreds of movies. Maybe that was an exaggeration, but not by much. This guy has been in a ton of films, and it doesn't look like he's about to slow down.

In an exclusive report, The Wrap has announced that Hoult is in talks to portray Nikola Tesla in the Weinstein Company's historical drama, The Current War. According to the report, director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me, Earl, and The Dying Girl) recently met with Hoult to discuss the part.

If he takes the role, Nicholas will join an already-stellar cast. Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange, Sherlock) and Michael Shannon (Midnight Special, Man Of Steel) are signed on to play rival engineers Thomas Edison, and George Westinghouse, respectively.

The Current War tells the story of the battle over electric currents that occurred between the two inventors in the late 19th century. Nikola Tesla was an associate of Edison for sometime before this, and will appear in the film alongside his American counterpart.

This won't be the first time a prominent film has featured Tesla as a side character. Christopher Nolan's magic thriller, The Prestige, saw David Bowie portray the late inventor.

As for Hoult, The Current War will pile onto his increasing workload over the next couple of years. In addition to his work on Sand Castle, and the mini-series Watership Down, Hoult will appear as another historical icon.

In the biopic, Rebel In The Rye, Hoult will play the central character, Amerian author JD Salinger.

Nicholas is best known for his roles in the X-Men franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Warm Bodies.
