A 6-year-old South Carolina boy named Jacob Hall was killed last week when he was shot at school. To celebrate his life, Jacob was given a superhero tribute that he would have been proud of.

On Saturday, Jacob passed away after suffering from a major brain injury. When he was shot, the bullet hit Jacob's femoral artery and caused a massive amount of blood loss. Jacob was on life support for three days before he eventually died.

A tribute was held at Oakdale Baptist Church in Townville, South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon, and the other children attending the service dressed as Batman, Superman, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, according to CNN.

Jacob's mother, Renae Hall, encouraged people that attended the service to wear superhero outfits in his honor.

"I don't want suits and ties and all that," Renae stated. "There will be a lot of children there and I don't want it to be scary for them."

Outside the Greenville Memorial Hopsital, Jacob's mother referred to her son as a "superhero" after his death.

"Jacob was forgiving," Hall said. "What happened to Jacob, Jacob forgives already. He's in heaven smiling down at us. He's asking his mommy to be able to be strong to forgive just like he would have."

Jacob's death prompted the prosecutors on the case to upgrade the attempted murder charge agaginst the 14-year-old shooter up to murder.

In a statement to People, Jacob's parents said their son completely changed their lives.

"Jacob came into our lives six years and four months ago and changed it completely. He showed us how to love, laugh and smile even on days we did not want to. God gave him to us and he was taken away from us by a senseless act," the family's statement to People read.

His funeral was held on Wednesday morning, and was also a superhero-themed occasion.

We offer our condolences to the Hall family in the wake of this horrible tragedy.
