The Green Ranger is coming to Liongate's Power Rangers movie. At New York Comic Con's big Power Rangers panel, Liongates surprised the crowd by bringing out Jason David Frank and confirming that he would have a role in the movie.

Frank played the Green Ranger Tommy on the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers television series. Although the Green Ranger was originally a pawn of Rita Repulsa, he quickly reformed and became the team's most powerful member. Tommy eventually became the White Ranger after losing his Green Ranger powers. After the Red Ranger Jason left the show, Tommy became the default leader of the team for several seasons.

Frank was the face of the Power Rangers franchise for several seasons, appearing in Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, and Power Rangers Turbo as team leader. Although he left the franchise in Power Rangers Turbo, he later returned in Power Rangers Wild Force and had a recurring role in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. His most recent appearance was in the Power Rangers Super Megaforce as part of a small army of "Legendary Rangers" who helped the current Power Rangers fight the forces of an evil alien armada.

Frank is also an accomplished martial artist and has fought in several MMA bouts. He's also set to appear as the superhero Bloodshot in a web series featuring various Valiant characters.

The new Power Rangers is a reboot of the Power Rangers franchise, starring the characters and Zords from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show. While the movie re-cast Rita Repulsa, Zordon, Jason, and the other Power Rangers, Lionsgate did not announce that Frank's character Tommy would appear in the film. Most fans theorize that Tommy and the Green Ranger would be the focus of a second Power Rangers movie.

The new Power Rangers movie will star Dacre Montgomery, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Elizabeth Banks, Bill Hader and Bryan Cranston. It comes out in theaters on March 24, 2017.
