When you think of Wonder Woman, you probably think of three things: truth, justice, and Lynda Carter. The actress became the penultimate symbol for Wonder Woman after playing the hero in an iconic 1970s show, and that reputation lives on today. So, when DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. confirmed they were reviving Wonder Woman and bringing her to the big screen, many wondered whether Carter would cameo in the film. Now, she is speaking out and revealing whether that's true of not.

In an interview with Variety, Carter talked about Wonder Woman's 75th anniversary and commented on the heroine's recent live-action appearances. But, when she was asked if she'll star in the character's standalone film, Carter gave an answer that will break many's hearts.

"I've spoken to [director] Patty Jenkins. She talked to me on the phone about the character, and we were trying to see if I could do something with the movie, but it didn't work out," she said. "The timing was off, and I was doing other things and couldn't get over to where they were shooting."

Naturally, fans are bummed about this news. Carter did much for Wonder Woman and helped solidify the character's status as a pop culture icon. And, more importantly, the actress championed the heroine as a role model for women everywhere. Carter said the character's staying power comes from Wonder Woman being a role model.

She said, "The reason she existed in the first place was that, when she came on the scene, there was nothing for girls to look up to. We're still fighting the same fight. We still need more female role models. But Wonder Woman is much more than a cartoon character. She's fighting for truth and justice and the secret self that exists in all women and girls. There's a moral fiber and a goodness about her that all women have."

In the future, fans may see Carter suit up in her star-spangled outfit once more. When asked whether she'd appear in future Wonder Woman movies, Carter said she might. However, right now, the actress said she tends to do "new parts in things."

Carter went on to say she fully supports Gal Gadot's casting as Wonder Woman. The actress took up the hero's Lasso of Truth in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and she will play Wonder Woman in Justice League as well.

"There's someone else doing the role now, and that's OK. They should do it. I support Gal wholeheartedly, and I wish her and Patty all the success in the world," Carter said.

Lynda Carter Wonder Woman Day

In previous interviews, Carter has talked about her excitement for the upcoming Wonder Woman film. She jokingly said the film took so long to develop because "they just had a hard time replacing me" as Diana Prince. "I think that they needed a woman director and they needed the focus to be about the story of who she is. And I think they got that. So from what I understand, it's going to be great. I can't wait!"

While Carter may be okay with leaving Wonder Woman in the past, the actress has not totally left the world of DC Comics behind. She will star in The CW's Supergirl this season to play the President of the United States. Not long ago, first-look photos of Carter on set where released that show her hanging out with one of Krypton's most famous ex-pats.

Later this month, Carter will even revisit her infamous role when she helps the United Nations initiate Wonder Woman Day on October 21. The actress will attend a special ceremony in New York City to kick-off the event and honor the hero's legacy.
