WWE might have taken longer to announce it than they originally planned, but the company has just announced Goldberg will be facing Brock Lesnar at next month's Survivor Series.

Goldberg returned to Monday Night Raw for the first time in 10 years last week to an incredibly receptive response and quickly addressed comments made by Lesnar and Paul Heyman. He gladly accepted their challenge, telling Lesnar "you're not just next. You're last!"

When it was time to respond to Goldberg's comments, things didn't go so swimmingly. Lesnar and Heyman went to the ring to respond, and many assumed they were set to announce their match at Survivor Series. That didn't really happen, though, and if rumors are to be believed, it stemmed from the rather negative response Goldberg's name received. The crowd was cheering more for Lesnar than they were for Goldberg, and eventually, the crowd broke into "Goldberg Sucks!" chants.

While the WWE universe as a whole has welcomed the former WCW champion back with open arms, there are bound to be those who want nothing to do with him or are skeptical of his abilities in the ring. Even Ric Flair had something to say about the superstar's return.

"The t-shirt and it's all over everywhere, he sells that t-shirt, Suplex City. Whoever is going to work with Brock Lesnar, whether he [has] gotten smarter, he's not going to change his style and he's going to get suplexed, not just once, not twice, but at least 10 times and I don't know if Bill's ready for that. You're off for a couple of months, much less 10 years, you're going to get in the ring and you're going to wrestle Brock Lesnar the first time around? Ha! Good luck with that! That's just the way it is. His body is not used to it and Brock is a whole different can than spearing Ric Flair, okay? Correct? I mean, I just don't think Bill is going to be physically up for that, myself. I mean, it might look good on paper, but, God, because Brock is 10 times more aggressive now than he was the last time he wrestled Bill."

It's certainly not fitting with the narrative WWE is trying to tell, but they needed to announce the match regardless, as the pieces are already set in place. It will be interesting to see how the match plays out, though, as WWE might shift gears a bit depending on the continued response to Goldberg. It would be surprising for them to use this in the build to Survivors Series.
