A match between Austin Aries and NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura ended abruptly Wednesday night as Aries sustained a massive eye injury.

Initial reports had Aries walking and talking backstage, but that his eye was swollen shut and required stitches. Aries showed off his injury on his Twitter today and it sure ain't pretty.


Video of the incident has been seen online. You can see that after Nakamura lands the superkick, he does a facebusting suplex on the already hurt Aries, the ref signals the infamous X handsign, signifying a legit injury in the ring.

Nakamura is known as the King of Strong Style, which means he practices stiffer attacks against his opponents. While this is clearly an accident, the "do not try this at home" mantra should bear repeating.
