Doctor Strange Extended Movie Clip Released

Marvel's Doctor Strange is about to warp into US theaters, and Marvel Studios is making a final big promotional push to get fans into theater seats. After a slew of TV spots and featurettes all teasing the same footage, we finally get an extended clip from the film, which reveals a very big set piece.

WARNING: This is one of those clips that arguably show too much to fans who have been eagerly anticipating Doctor Strange, without wanting to spoil the experience for themselves.

This scene is set within New York City, presumably as Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) attempt to defend the Sanctum Sanctorum from the dark forces of Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen). What we see here are the sort of reality-warping mystical effects that make Doctor Strange's visuals look like a M.C. Escher painting.

It's an aspect of the film that the cast, crew and executives have been talking up a lot - and seeing the clip, it is truly unlike action in any other movie we've seen... this side of Inception. One interesting note is the glass pane over reality that Mordo references at the beginning of the clip; it's the same effect we first see The Ancient One use on Stephen Strange to reveal the multiverse and Astral Plane to the skeptical doctor. Apparently, that spell is what keeps the battles of the mystical world hidden from everyday people - presumably including heroes like The Avengers, or organizations like SHIELD.
