Star Wars is beloved for its frantic space firefights and iconic characters, but at the heart of the franchise is a message of hope, and one of defying the most impossible of odds. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is no different in that regard, and two of the writers on the film are parlaying that message to our current political situation.

Writers Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta have rallied against the coming Trump administration via social media (via TheWrap), sharing a rebel alliance logo with a safety pin through it. For those unfamiliar with the symbol, it started after the decision that caused Brexit was made, and people wear the safety pin as a message to immigrants that they are welcome and safe with them.

Since one of Trump's big campaign promises was erecting a large wall in the name of border safety, along with getting "the bad one's" out of the country, it's easy to see why that campaign has also caught on here. Weitz and Whitta have been sharing the logo along with a few statements that draw some comparisons between the Trump campaign and a certain Empire order.

Whitta said: "Ethnically diverse group led by brave women rise up against new threat from authoritarian regime led by old white men? Check." He later added, "While working on the movie, I recall thinking/talking a lot about how good people rise up when they realize they're facing the unthinkable."

Weitz has been sharing and retweeting those who are wearing the symbol, which was made by @sethomatik. He even has an alternate version available on his Twitter feed.

There are many who differ on the best way to defend the borders of the United States, and that's perfectly fine. The idea that this nation is a nation that thrives on its multicultural makeup should not be lost, and nor should the respect towards your fellow Americans.
