The Walking Dead season 7's latest episode, "Go Getters" moved the focus to Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin -Green), the two ladies left grieving after the brutal murders of their respective beaus, Glenn and Abraham. During the episode, we watch Sasha and (particularly) Maggie shake off despair and embrace new purpose, hiding out in the Hilltop community and planning the road ahead.

The end of the episode revealed that Sasha's plans for the future are simple: find Negan; kill Negan. However, what about Maggie? Actress Lauren Cohan is speaking about where Maggie is in season 7 - and where she's headed as the season continues to unfold.

In "Go Getters," Maggie (despite having a tenuous complication with her pregnancy) is seen taking charge and leading the way during The Saviors' sadistic zombie attack in the night. At the end of the episode, when Gregory tries to marginalize her once again, she punches him in the face and makes it clear that she is in Hilltop; she's staying in Hilltop; and Gergory better start respecting her.

A lot of fans have taken the episode to be a first sign of Maggie's evolution into one of the main leaders of the zompocalypse world - maybe even the leader of Hilltop. Teasing a little bit of that possible future, Cohan told EW that, "the punch she gave Gregory is probably the taste of what's to come. We will see more of that Maggie....Glenn is gone and Hershel is gone, and she's sort of just trying to do what they would have expected and what they taught her to do and what they learned and what she learned with them. So, those are the shoes she's stepping into now as she guides people that need her. Everybody's got jobs to do and she's stepping into those shoes."

That certainly sounds like Maggie will be evolving into a more of an official leader - a trajectory that the show has been seeding for quite some time. Seasons 5 and 6 saw Maggie act effectively as both a politician (in Alexandria) and a fierce warrior/killer (that season 6 "The Same Boat" episode), which is pretty much the combination of talents one needs to lead in the Zompocalypse. Add all the hard losses she's suffered (dad, sister, husband) and the thing she has to protect (the baby) and Maggie could conceivably become a deadlier general than Negan himself. Time will tell.
