Amy Adams Says Playing Lois Lane Is Tricky

Amy Adams is one of many actress who has stepped into Lois Lane's iconic shoes. Teri Hatcher, Erica Durance, Kate Bosworth have all had their turns playing Superman's love interest, and each actress brought a different take of the character. Amy Adams is the most recent star to take up the role, and fans have fallen for his no-nonsense depiction of Lois. But, still - that doesn't mean the job isn't stressful.

In a recent report by Variety, Adams talks about how tricky it is to play Lois in light of the character's canon. The actress took time to do an 'Actors on Actors' interview with Andrew Garfield, and Adams said she understood why the actor felt disillusioned when he was cast as Spider-Man. To the stars, the difficulty came in when they had to choose between serving the story or canon.

"That's the tricky thing with Lois Lane that I find. I love playing her, I love everyone I work with, but sometimes it's tricky because I feel she's in service of the story instead of the story serving a character," she said.

"That can be tricky: When you show up and you really want to retain a character and you have to serve the story. Does that make sense? In a perfect universe, they all work together. I always want to service the story, but I want to feel supported in the character as well."

For years, Adams' comments have been echoed by Superman fans who have wanted to see more from Lois. The favorite character has been an integral part of shaping Clark Kent's heroic alter-ego, but there are those fans who worry Lois does so at the expense of autonomy.

It's no surprise to hear that Adams feels strongly about how her work as Lois is shown to audiences. The actress has said she's a big fan of the character. Before Man of Steel even debuted, Adams gushed about Lois during an interview with Jay Leno.

"I was really into the movies, and Christopher Reeve, and Margot Kidder. And I really wanted to be Lois, because I thought Superman was just awesome." Adams said. "I didn't think I was going to be an actress playing Lois. I just wanted to be her, to be Lois Lane."

At the DC Extended Universe moves forward, fans will be able to see more of Lois. The character will appear in Justice League, and Adams did confirm that a sequel to Man of Steel was in development at Warner Bros. not too long ago. Of course, there's been no word on whether the star will appear in the second film, but fans believe it is something to bet on.
