Director James Wan and star Jason Mamoa are hard at work prepping for DC Extended Universe movie Aquaman, doing things like scouting locations and indulging in the now-mandatory social media promotion.

Adding to early Aquaman production news, we now know a working title for the film, and its one that comes with some sly wit, even if it's not the most clandestine.

Production Weekly has revealed that Aquaman's working title is "Ahab." For those whose literary tastes skew more towards comic books than famous literature, that working title is reference to Moby Dick and the character of Captain Ahab, the grizzled and peg-legged seaman whose obsession with the white wale who bit off his leg leads to the ill-fated voyage that drives the novel. "Ahab" is also a biblical character who ruled as seventh king Israel.

For as much criticism as DCEU films get, they're constantly proving to be surprisingly sophisticated in the way they incorporate literature, art, philosophy and so much more. While this is a simple production title for Aquaman, it makes some high-minded connections that fans can dig into.

Hopefully James Wan's finished film is as high-minded and sophisticated as it is full of swashbuckling action.

Batman v Superman & Suicide Squad are now on home video; Wonder Woman is coming on June 2, 2017; followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020.
