Aftering Negan went into Alexandria in last night's midseason finale and gutted the treacherous Spencer and had one his female enforcers put a bullet in the head of the kind-hearted Olivia as punishment for Rosita trying to kill him, the bear inside of Rick Grimes has finally awoken again. It's time to go to war!
"There's no question that I think with Michonne's pep talk and with Daryl back, Rick is finding his mojo again," Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd told Deadline. "I don't think they're going to be willing servants of Negan's anymore."
The most important aspect of those two kills is that the people of Alexandria that weren't there to witness Negan horrifically bash the heads of Glenn and Abraham got to see just how truly evil Negan and his Saviors are. While no one will shed a tear for Spencer (Well, maybe Rosita will), Olivia's death should be the wake up call Alexandria so desperately needed.
"It really is more about how it affects the remaining group," Hurd explained. "With Spencer that's a horrific death but everyone knew that he was pretty untrustworthy. That he was plotting against Rick. He was vocal in that with Father Gabriel. So he's not someone that was probably going to motivate anyone to do anything because his death seemed almost deserved, whereas Olivia was completely blameless, completely innocent. In Negan's world he just says kill somebody and you never know whose number is going to come up. That's not a world that the rest of our Survivors are going to want to continue to live in."
