Kong: Skull Island Concept Art Revealed

Kong is an imposing figure, but he's even more imposing when he's charging at you through a sea of fire.

That's the scene in the newest concept art from Kong: Skull Island, which premieres in the newest issue of Empire. The two poor souls running from the massive behemoth most likely hoped that the fire would slow the big guy down, but well, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Kong: Skull Island Director Jordan Vogt-Robert spoke to Empire about the origin of those flames, and the overall aesthetic, which derived inspiration from the Vietnam War.

"The script I first read took place in 1917, but when I started talking to the Legendary [Entertainment] guys, I was thinking, 'What weird King Kong movie would I want to see?' So I pitched them the Vietnam War connection, literally thinking they were gonna laugh me out of the room. And to Legendary's credit, they said, 'Cool. Let's figure it out.' The aesthetics of that time mixed with King Kong makes for an incredible genre mash-up."

Kong: Skull Island stars Brie Larson (Weaver), Tom Hiddleston (Captain James Conrad), Toby Kebbell (Major Chapman), Tian Jing (San), Samuel L. Jackson (Lieutenant Colonel Packard), John Goodman (Bill Randa), Corey Hawkins, John C. Reilly, and Jason Mitchell (Glenn Mill).

Kong: Skull Island hits theaters on March 10, 2017.
