The mid-season trailer for Star Wars Rebels Season 3 debuted online Wednesday with tons of surprises for fans of Rebels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and even Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Watch the trailer first, trust us, then read on.
The trailer features an incredibly fast-paced 3 minutes of footage, as Ezra wakes up to the old Jedi Holocron, thought destroyed, somehow broadcasting Obi-Wan Kenobi's message again. "This is a warning" it says, as warning begins to repeat. A series of jump cuts show the Empire building up, the new TIE Defender model, a new battle droid, Saw Gerrera warning that the Empire is hiding something important (the Death Star), and the reveal that yes, Grand Admiral Thrawn knows there's a Rebel spy codenamed Fulcrum in their midst.
The Rebellion builds as we see Bail Organa and General Dodonna standing and talking to a hologram of Mon Mothma, who talks of building an alliance. "This is our rebellion."
That leads to a coordinated attack by multiple cells, shots of the Geonosis episodes, and Thrawn finally taking to arms.
Sabine and the Rebels return to Mandalore, where she plans to challenge for leadership thanks to her possession of the Dark Saber.
The Warnings begin again, and things look grim fro Zeb in one moment. A series of crazy battles leads to a lone man sitting by a fire on a desert planet. It's an aged Obi-Wan "Old Ben" Kenobi, and he says, "You're in the wrong place." Darth Maul emerges, and they both ignite their lightsabers.
Star Wars Rebels season 3 returns this Saturday on Disney XD at 8:30 pm ET/PT with the two-part "Ghosts of Geonosis." It features Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, following up on his appearance in Rogue One, as the Rebels head to Geonosis to try to discover information about a missing rebel team. The official description reads:
"The crew returns to Geonosis in search of a missing rebel team sent to investigate suspicious activity there, and they are surprised by what they find. After finding a missing rebel team member, the Ghost crew discovers another surprise on Geonosis, and they work to conceal it from Imperial forces."
