When Marvel Studios decided to go full-force into the mystical arts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they of course had to start with Doctor Strange. With the home release of the movie coming next month, more has been revealed lately about the process of making the film. That includes new concept art that's come out since the movie's release in november, like a completely different look for the titular character by Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park, who has been revealing more looks at the character this week.

In this new look he tweeted out, we see a Doctor Strange costume that's wholly unique, and has never appeared in the comics. His cape and coat are one, connected piece of clothing, for example. In a design that looks like it would fit the runway in a fashion show just as well as it would a superhero fight, there are no visible clasps for the jacket/cape, aside from one point at the top.
Of course, this whole design was probably scrapped for two practical reasons, as well as one a little less tangible. First, the design doesn't lend itself much to the Cloak of Levitation being "alive" as it was presented in the film. The Cloak became another character in the movie, very much in the spirit of "Rug" in Aladdin, voluntarily helping Doctor Strange. Second, this design doesn't lend itself much to a necklace, which the Eye of Agamotto was presented as. Sure, they could've altered that, too, but that's another difficulty. Finally, it doesn't look anything like the comic book version at Marvel Comics, and looking at the end result, they clearly decided they wanted to be closer to the comics version, a move fans certainly welcomed.
Still, it's fun to see the alternate takes on these classic heroes, and a look like this making it into a comic or video game would be welcomed. See the full-sized image below.
