The Gotham winter finale aired tonight, ending a three-episode mini-arc that brought Jerome back, continued the feud between Penguin, Nygma, and Barbara, introduced new players to the Gotham City board, and much more. So much went down in these three episodes that the winter hiatus - 12 weeks without new Gotham - is a little easier to bear. This way, we have time to take it all in, rewatch those three episodes about thirty more times, and try to process everything we just saw.
With all of that in mind, we have five particular spoilery questions we are going to be thinking about and debating here at the Comicbook.com offices. Read through ours and let us know yours in the comments. SPOILERS!
Is Penguin Really Dead?
It's a question so big we looked much deeper into it elsewhere, but Penguin's apparent death has major implications on the show. Not only does it make a huge hole in the landscape of the series in-story, but Robin Lord Taylor not being around would make an even larger hole in the landscape of the show for fans. He's been, in many ways, the heart and soul of the show, as Gotham City's transformation has been shown through Penguin.

If he did really die - and let's just keep hoping that answer is no - it also begs another question: is anyone safe in this particular alternate DC Universe? (Incidentally: how beautiful and perfect is this shot?)
What is the Court of Owls Doing?
The more we see of the Court of Owls, the less it feels like we know anything about who they are or what they have planned. This question is really several questions in one: What's the plan for Bruce's doppleganger? Who is he anyway? Why are people like Frank Gordon loyal to the Court? Does the Court really have good intentions in keeping control of Gotham City? And what was the deal with the Crystal Owl, now broken, that contained some kind of map?
Yeah, the Court of Owls has a lot of explaining to do, and we have a lot to learn about there.
Where did Selina Go, and What's Next for Her?
Betrayed by both her mother (again) and Bruce (to a different extent, but still), Selina tried to fight Bruce, and left. Actress Camren Bicondova teased to Comicbook.com that this wasn't just symbolic, she's really going out on her own again.
"I'm definitely excited for her to go through a dark phase and be on her own, those are my two main things," Bicondova teased. "I think it's very liberating for a young lady to go through a very big change. I'm excited to see, whatever change happens, I'm excited to see how she deals with it, and I'm excited to be able to play that. So that's what I'm excited for right now, a big change and how she deals with it after the change!"
Yes, that means #BatCat is done, at least for now, but what is next for Selina? Hopefully she'll get to figure herself out a bit so when the time comes to forge new relationships again she'll have a better footing to start with.
How Far Will Bruce Wayne Progress Towards Batman This Season?
Bruce took a massive step to becoming Batman tonight, with fisticuffs; but more importantly with stopping himself from killing Jerome. Having a conversation with Alfred after, he declared his first "rule:" "I will not kill."
It's a big step - but what's next for Bruce? It seems like now that he's accepted that his destiny includes something bigger than just a little boxing training and light detective work, Bruce is going to have to take leaps now, instead of steps. So how far does that go? Will he start physically training more? Perhaps try to take a trip to start learning more abroad? The older, more determined Bruce Wayne is here, and he has some growing to do.
Who is Ruling Gotham Now?
Whether or not Penguin is dead, he's certainly off the table, at least for the forseeable future. That means someone else needs to step into his role - both as Mayor and as leader of the Gotham City underworld. It seems we might get a one-two punch, and see Ed Nygma step into that Mayoral role and Babs step into the "Queen of Gotham" role she's covetted for awhile now.
And that sounds like utter disaster for Gotham City. We can hardly wait for April 24, but we'll do our best.
