Coolio Reveals He Nearly Played Scarecrow In A DC Film

If you know a thing about Batman's cinematic history, then you know the flop that was 1997's Batman and Robin. The film, which was directed by Joel Schumacher, left fans sour thanks to its campy storylines and uneven casting. After the film debuts, Warner Bros. quietly brushed the film away into obscurity and hid away their plans for a sequel. Over the years, a slew of details about the sequel have come to light, and now one rap star is making one shocking claim about the follow-up to Batman and Robin.

Recently, Coolio did an interview with Burleson Star where he revealed a long-hidden tidbit about the scrapped sequel. During his chat, the rapper revealed he had been asked to play Scarecrow in the movie, a role which fans should be familiar with.

"Batman & Robin was the only Batman that didn't make money," he started. I'm still sore about that a little bit, cause the only reason I did that part is because they promised me the villain part in the following Batman, which they didn't do, because Joel Schumacher; They fired him."

"He was supposed to do the two next ones," Coolio continued. "He and I didn't get along that good anyway – I mean he made a terrible Batman movie. But the next villain was supposed to be the Scarecrow. They didn't do it though. Maybe one day - I'm sure they won't come calling though."

Of course, Batman fans will be familiar with plans for the scrapped film given its odd history. In 1996, Warner Bros. commissioned a sequel to Batman and Robin that focused on the Scarecrow. The film, which operated under the working title Batman Unchained, saw the villain use his toxin to revive the Joker as a hallucination for Bruce Wayne. However, the film did not pan out after Batman and Robin tanked in theaters.

In the past, Schumacher has said he had wanted Nicholas Cage to take on the role, but it seems like Coolio was involved with one or more conversations about the piece.
