After the events of The Clone Conspiracy #5, fans might have noticed that Ben Reilly was nowhere to be found, save for his broken Jackal mask.
Marvel has just announced that he won't be gone for long, however, as Peter Parker's clone will be making his big return this April in Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider #1 (via Newsarama). The first arc will deal directly with the aftermath of The Clone Conspiracy, but once all is said and done it looks like he will be adopting the classic Scarlet Spider costume, a look that while rather simple has developed a cult following amongst comic fans.
Marvel also made sure to point out that nothing that happened in Clone Conspiracy is being retconned to make this happen. Rather, there will be a story-driven change to get Reilly back in his old look.
Reilly will certainly have a great deal to answer for, as he managed to bring back numerous allies and villains of Spider-Man to life. When he was giving the New U tour, he did manage to leave out that all of these resurrections carried a deadly virus without their daily pill, so that was an oversight, but Spidey along with some help from several friends was able to put the genie back in the bottle so to speak.
Marvel is celebrating the big return with a cover from popular Spider-Man artist Mark Bagley, who redrew a version with the classic Scarlet Spider costume intact. You can view the covers in the gallery, and the solicitation can be found below.
