Lights Out and Annabelle 2 director David F. Sandberg is in talks to direct Shazam!, according to The Wrap.
Sandberg is currently directing Annabelle 2 for New Line, the imprint of Warner Bros. who will be making the Shazam! and Black Adam movies.
Dwayne Johnson will star in those films as Black Adam, with no other members of the cast yet named. The series centers on Billy Batson, a teenager who says a magic word ("Shazam!") and is transformed into a magic-powered superhero.
In addition to the Shazam! films and the Annabelle franchise, New Line is working on a sequel to Lights Out, which would continue the story of Sandberg's film (which was in turn based on a short film he made five years ago).
The film will be written by Henry Gayden, whose previous work includes Earth to Echo.
There's no official synopsis for the film, but here's what Johnson recently gave on Instagram: "One of the most powerful anti-heroes on the planet is coming. And he is coming in hot. Brace yourself for BLACK ADAM! It's a new dawn. #DCUniverse #SevenBucks #FlynnPictureCo #DreamTeam @therock @hhgarcia41 @danygarciaco @rbpix #GeoffJohns #Repost @therock ・・・ Had a very cool and strategic meeting with the heads of DC about their entire universe. As a hard core DC fan, to get a real sense of the tonal shifts and developments coming in these future movies has me fired up. Something we, as DC fans have all been waiting for for a very long time. Hope, optimism & FUN. Even when talking about the the most ruthless villain/anti-hero of all time finally coming to life. Prepare yourselves DC Universe. #KneelAtHisFeet #OrGetCrushedByHisBoot #BlackAdam⚡️"
