Fairy Tail fans, it could be time to start preparing your goodbyes. Back in 2006, the world was first introduced to Hiro Mashima's shonen series thanks to Kodanasha, but it looks like Natsu's story will be coming to a close. While the manga still has a ways to go, the official website for Fairy Tail's upcoming movie made a startling revelation about the manga, and it has fans feeling conflicted.

The official website for Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry was updated earlier today with theatrical poster and information page. In the latter destination, fans were taken back when the site described the Fairy Tail manga as being in its last arc. The page also revealed the manga has now sold more than 60 million copies worldwide, and the series debuted its 500th chapters last September.

Of course, fans have been dreading this news for some time. Fairy Tail is one of Japan's most popular franchise both domestically and abroad. This year, the series is set to make a comeback as a brand-new feature film will be released next month. The movie will follow heroes like Natsu and Lucy, and the franchise also rolled out a new anime last year. Fairy Tail Zero debuted in January 2016 as a prequel to the original anime.

As for an eighth season of Fairy Tail, word on the anime's return has been mum. Mashima has hinted Fairy Tail would return with a brand-new anime sequel similar to show Naruto Shippuden relates to the original Naruto anime.

If you are not familiar with Fairy Tail, then it is about time you familiarized yourself with the anime. The series follows a guild of young, powerful wizards who call Fairy Tail family. Set in a fictional Earth, a boy named Natsu teams up with an unlikely friend Lucy Heartfilia as the latter dreams of becoming a powerful wizard. To date, there are more than 250 episodes of the acclaimed series, and fans can expect more to come in the new year.

To date, several million copies of Fairy Tail have been sold worldwide. Published by Del Ray in the west, there are over 60 million volumes of the manga in circulation at the moment. Kodansha Comics is now overseeing the release of Fairy Tail projects in the U.S. and other western territories, and the licensing return has helped the publisher amass popularity. Other series like Attack on Titan have also helped bolster Kodansha's visibility outside of Japan, so fans can expect the company to continue pushing out new content as it becomes available.

So, what do you think? Are you surprised to hear Fairy Tail is reaching its end?
