Dragon Ball Super is a couple of weeks into its new story arc, and fans are already on-board with the anime's direction. Last week, fans watched as Mr. Buu wrecked the warrior Basil from Universe 9, and Gohan will be the next battle on deck. Of course, the warriors are fighting with all they've got because the stakes for the current story are higher than ever. The Omni-Kings created the multiverse competition with the stipulation that every losing universe had their homes destroyed. But, in a less-than-stunning turn of events, the powerful gods may rescind the decision.
UP NEXT: Dragon Ball Super: Could Goku Become a Villain?
The latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump broke down the possible change with an episode synopsis. The magazine printed a description for episode 81, and the synopsis' latter-half has fans feeling conflicted.
You can check out the excerpt below:
"Omni-King This Week: Taking back his declaration to wipe out the universes?! Accepting Bergamo's proposal, Omni-King announces that if Universe 4 [?] wins, he will withdraw his plan to wipe out universes who lose in the Tournament of Power! What is Omni-King's aim?!"
While the synopsis apparently has a typo, the point is the same: the Omni-Kings may decide to take back their destructive consequences for losers. If Bergamo wins his battle against Goku, then the rest of the universes will be made safe. It will come down to Goku to decide whether victory over Bergamo is worth risking the safety of the entire Dragon Ball multiverse. And, you know - Goku really does hate to lose.
Online, fans have shared their conflicted thoughts about the Omni-Kings and their possible take-back. Audiences have long complained that the Dragon Ball franchise has lost a sense of urgency because of its insane power levels and deus ex machina moments. When characters are infinitely powerful or can revive at will, stakes are left low because any undesirable outcome can be retconned. When the Omni-Kings said they would destroy losing universes, the threat made the martial arts tournament carry a weight which hadn't been seen in some time. After all, no one in the Dragon Ball franchise is more powerful than the childish overseers. But, if they are convinced to let the universes remain, then the new arc will experience a dip in urgency.
And, thanks to that, fans are hope Goku chooses to beat Bergamo to a pulp.
The "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
