Hundreds of comic book characters are being portrayed in film and television, and with each new day more are being announced.

Major Issues -- a ComicBook.com original video series -- will speak to true comic book hobbyists as well as new fans in a short, fast-paced digital series featuring the first appearances of characters we all love. Each episode will feature the actual comic book, info on the creators, and the backstory on the creation and legacy of the character.

The next in our series is a look at the arch-nemesis of Wolverine, Sabertooth.

The origin story is told as such from the Marvel Database: When Victor Creed's mutation first manifested, he accidentally killed his brother over a piece of pie. His father confined him to a cellar and would systemically pull out Victor's "devil teeth" in an attempt to purge the boy of his "demons". Victor was chained like an animal in the family cellar for years until one day he chewed off his own hand in order to break free, subsequently murdering his father. Although he would later claim to have killed his mother as well, he actually spared her, and made sure she lived a comfortable life, until she was diagnosed with cancer and confined to a hospital, where she was killed by a member of the Red Right Hand.

Originally published as Iron Fist Vol. 1 No. 14, the database sums the story as such:

Stalked through the Canadian wilderness, Iron Fist and Colleen flee their attackers, however Colleen is shot. As they are making their escape, Iron Fist reflects back on the events the caused them to get to this point: It all started in New York when Iron Fist was attacked by Steel Serpent, who absorbs some of Danny's power as part of his revenge and departs. He was then called by Colleen to come up to Canada to act as Jeryn's bodyguard while he investigates who has been ripping off Rand-Meachum, they would arrive to their location to learn that Jeryn is the prisoner of the mercenary known as Sabretooth, who had his men chase them into the mountains.
