Logan may have ceded the domestic box office crown to Kong: Skull Island this weekend, but Hugh Jackman's final Wolverine movie is now leading a much larger pack.
Logan has become the largest-grossing film of 2017 at the worldwide box office. Logan has made a total of $438.3 million globally, with $152.7 million of that total coming domestically and the remaining $285.6 million coming from foreign markets. That two-week total is greater than the entire lifetime box office total for The Wolverine.
Logan also had the largest opening weekend box office total of 2017 so far, and had the widest release of any R-rated movie in history, with a budget of $94 million. Logan has been surpassing expectation ever since it opened at the beginning of March. Logan outdid the main X-Men franchise's latest picture, X-Men: Apocalypse in Thursday night preview showings. Analysts updated their projection's for Logan's opening weekend to a hefty $80 million, but Logan blew by even that, taking in $88 million domestically to become the biggest opening for any of Hugh Jackman's three solo Wolverine movies.
Logan has garnered near universe critical praise. ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis called Logan "the perfect finale." The film currently has an 88.49 ComicBook Composite score, the second-highest ComicBook Composite score of any comic book movie, and a 4.72 out of 5 user rating, making it the top rated of all comic book movies among ComicBook.com readers. Logan is the final performance as Wolverine for Hugh Jackman. Jackman has played Wolverine for 17 years and through nine movies: the original X-Men trilogy, the prequel X-Men trilogy (though two of those appearances were cameos), and the Wolverine trilogy.
Logan also introduces a possible heir to Wolverine's mantle in Laura, a.k.a. X-23, a clone young female clone of Wolverine with his claws, healing factor and fierce fighting skills.
Logan is directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Frank and Michael Green, from a story by Mangold, and also stars Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen.
Logan is now playing in theaters.
