The OA Star Patrick Gibson Lands Lead Role In The Darkest Minds

The OA was one of the most talked-about shows of 2017, and it garnered enough hype among fans that Netflix went forward with a second season of the sci-fi drama.

The fans weren't the only group of folks who got to chattering about the series, as the industry itself was glowing about the stars of the show.

Patrick Gibson grabbed a ton of attention for his role as Steve Winchell, and his performance has finally earned him his next major role.

Fox has nabbed Gibson to star in the upcoming YA sci-fi thriller, The Darkest Minds. According to the report from Deadline,

Gibson will play the handsome and slightly narcissistic Clancy Gray, the president's son and poster boy for rehabilitation whose portrait is displayed all over the camp. He possesses a certain power that can manipulate people's minds and he uses that to convince those around him that he's been healed.

The Darkest Minds is a trilogy from Alexandra Bracken, which focuses on a group of teenagers with supernatural abilities. While most of the children of the world are gone, those who remain have plenty of power.

The Netflix original series The OA, which launches this Friday, is from visionaries Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij (Sound of My Voice, The East), who created and wrote the eight chapter, mind-bending odyssey together. The show begins with a missing blind girl in her twenties, Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling), who comes home to the community she grew up in with her sight restored. Some hail her a miracle, others a dangerous mystery, but Prairie won't talk about her seven years missing with the FBI or her parents.

Marling stars in the series and Batmanglij directs all episodes. The series also stars Emory Cohen (Brooklyn, The Place Beyond the Pines), Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead, Junebug), Phyllis Smith (The Office), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, Fury, Dig), Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact, Silent Hill), Patrick Gibson (The Tudors), Brendan Meyer (Mr. Young, The Guest) and newcomers Ian Alexander and Brandon Perea.
