Spoilers for tonight's episode of The Flash!
Tonight's episode of The Flash sent its titular character, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), through the Speed Force in an attempt to free Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale). While there, he was essentially met with the ghosts of his past, including one that he had some unfinished business with.
Fans will remember that Hunter Zolomon/Zoom (Teddy Sears) was apprehended by a Time Wraith in last season's finale, leading him to become the ghoulish Black Flash. But while fans saw that transformation happen onscreen, it was something that Barry and the rest of Team Flash wasn't privy to - until tonight's episode.
While having a conversation with the Speed Force (in the form of Ronnie Raymond), Barry was quickly attacked by Black Flash, and the pair were sent racing throughout Star Labs. For a brief moment, Black Flash had Barry apprehended, and it appeared that he was going to drain the life force from Barry. But Barry quickly surrendered to Ronnie and the Speed Force, bargaining with them to let him work to free Wally.
This isn't the first time that Black Flash has been seen in action during this DCTV season. The character made a noteworthy appearance in the Legends of Tomorrow episode The Legion of Doom, in which he chased and almost apprehended Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher).
While it's unclear if Black Flash will appear in the rest of this DCTV season, his appearance on tonight's The Flash was certainly a welcome surprise.
BARRY TURNS TO THE SPEED FORCE – Desperate to stop Savitar and save his friends, Barry (Grant Gustin) turns to the Speed Force for answers. H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) gives Jesse (Violett Beane) some advice.
Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Brooke Roberts & Judalina Neira.
