Characters We Want to See in Legends of Tomorrow Season 3
This season saw the introduction of the Justice Society of America to DC's Legends of Tomorrow, [...]
IRON MUNRO
Introduced in Jerry Ordway's Justice Society spinoff Infinity, Inc., Iron Munro is the son of Hugo Danner, the lead character in Gladiator, a novel said to be one of the inspirations for Superman.
He's also the grandfather of Al Pratt and Kate Spencer, Atom-Smasher and Manhunter, respectively.
What's more? He's been used as a "fill-in character" for Superman over the years, so he's got a great power set and is a hugely inspirational character in his own right.
prevnextTHE RAY
With his own series coming soon to CW Seed, this seems like a pretty obvious choice. Could we see the Freedom Fighters -- and if we do, will they be the "New Earth" version from the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DCU, or would they be transplants from an Earth where the Nazis won World War II?
Either way, I'm up for some crossover between Legends and The Ray, especially if we're really losing Vixen's strong ties to the show.
prevnextCONSTANTINE
Another CW Seed superstar-in-waiting that we'd like to see at least pop in for an episode or two? John Constantine.
Played by Matt Ryan, Constantine has his own, self-titled show on NBC for a season before appearing on an episode of Arrow, voicing the character in Justice League Dark, and finally getting his own show on CW Seed.
All that's left is for somebody to find a way to keep him around for more than half an hour of screen time a season.
prevnextHOURMAN
Just about every crossover has titles that spin out of it, and most of them are gone pretty fast and mourned by no one. That makes this title (as well as one more further on down the list) something of a departure from the norm in that it spun out of Grant Morrison's DC One Million event (who would know that Morrison and Morales would work together again on reinventing Superman a decade or so later?) and turned out to be one of the best comics on the stands at the time.
Following the adventures of the "Android Hourman" from the 853rd Century and former Justice League of America "mascot" Snapper Carr, the book was everything that a Red Tornado comic should be but never truly reaches, in terms of exploring the idea of a robot with a soul. It also had a great supporting cast and an ever-escalating series of strange plot events that helped it transcend the challenge of having few real villains.
So having him as a minor character in an ensemble superhero show wouldn't capture the magic of the comic itself...but I'd still love to see Tyler show up.
If Amaya were to stick around, there could be something really interesting about watching her interact with somebody who's inspired by her ex.
prevnextKAMANDI
Come on, really. If you've got a time-travel story, you have to visit some of the weirder, wilder characters that DC has had throughout their publishing history set in other eras.
There are absolutely characters from stories like Final Crisis and Time Masters: Vanishing Point who will never be in live-action if it doesn't happen someplace like Legends of Tomorrow. And the idea that you have the ability to use Kamandi and don't? That's just wrong.
In season 1, we got a glimpse of the near future if a despot rose to power. In season 2, the team is trying to fix a present thrown out of whack by threats to the past. In season 3, why wouldn't we want to see the far-flung future, and experience the present through the eyes of somebody who has never really known hope and compassion before?
prevnextMONARCH
One of the most dangerous time-traveling baddies in DC history, could we see Monarch, the villain behind Armageddon 2001 and (after a few transformations) portions of Zero Hour: A Crisis in Time?
At one point, we even thought he might be the Season 2 big bad.
I'd be all for it, although obviously his complex backstory and the fact that he burns off a potential superhero in the form of the corrupted Hank Hall might make it hard to do without drawing the kind of ire that The Flash got from fans when they revealed that "Jay Garrick" was Zoom last season.
prevnextJAY GARRICK
...Spekaing of whom!
While The Flash has done right by John Wesley Shipp and Jay Garrick more often than not, when you've got a beloved actor playing a beloved character who's simply not that big a part of the story, it often feels like you have to come up with contrived reasons to sideline the character so your leads can have their moment in the sun.
Legends of Tomorrow has given Arrow the opportunity to find homes for The Atom and White Canary after they were "retired" from the series, as well as Firestorm from The Flash. Why not bring Garrick in -- especially when they know from firsthand experience how much easier it is to fight a speedster with a speedster than without?
