"They grow up so fast!" ...A phrase which might scare producers of The Walking Dead.
Not only did Chandler Riggs become a full grown man in the seven years he has been playing Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead (which certainly hasn't spanned such a time) but his character's little sister is growing up, herself. Judith Grimes is just an infant at the moment but eventually, the little girl will start delivering her first words, then lines, and (if the show goes on as long as Scott Gimple hopes) then killing zombies and learning to drive!
For the time being, Judith is played by alternating sets of twins. Riggs has been open about getting attached to the babies which are often swapped out as time goes on to keep the little girl looking young. However, a recent scene between Judith and Tara revealed just how much the little girl is growing. Unless the show kills her off, the team behind the AMC series will inevitably have to cast an actress in the role.

In The Walking Dead comics, Judith never made it this far. The baby was killed during the Governor's raid on the prison. There was no constant need to have Father Gabriel look after her and the thought of a toddler actress taking her role didn't seem to be a thought -- but it is.
"Also, maybe in a couple of episodes time, there may be a jump ahead in the curve," Andrew Lincoln said in an interview with ComicBook.com.
Following the war with Negan, The Walking Dead comics saw an unspecified time jump which is suspected of being at least two years. If such an event is to occur on the AMC series and Judith survives the war, the episodes following the jump will need a 3-year-old (or close to it) actress in the role of Judith. Then, the program faces the same issue it did with Riggs growing up so quickly.
With the show likely to have only a couple of months pass in the years of episodes following its All Out War storyline, will Gimple elect to put one actress in the part of Judith or continue to swap her out and stray away from allowing her to speak? Her father, Shane Walsh, would not be a fan of the latter.
