When it comes to Star Wars, there are a few things fans simply just expect to see. There should be intergalactic chase scenes, a pouty user of the Force's dark side, and even a quips about the Jedi code. However, none of these hallmarks are as tested as the franchise's opening crawls. Ever since the first Star Wars film dropped, the Skywalker Saga has had each of its film begin with a brief opening explaining need-to-know information. The opening crawl returned in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but fans were aghast when news broke that Rogue One would ignore the stereotypical scene.
Still, fans will be reunited with the cherished tradition when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits. The eighth film is slated to hit theaters this December, and its director recently revealed how long the crawl will be.
Spoiler! You will want to bring your reading glasses.
In an interview with MTV, Rian Johnson admitted that the opening crawl for The Last Jedi is rather large given its close timeline with The Force Awakens. The new film will start directly after the last movie ended, but there will be plenty of background information which fans still need to know about.
"Even if it picks up right where the last one left off, there's still a lot of unanswered questions about what the state of everything is, we were able to fill three paragraphs," Johnson explained.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.
