At the open hosted at the Marvel Studio headquarters last night, members of the media saw clips of upcoming movies including Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther. For those projects not yet in production, concept art filled the void including the first official look at Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.

While Larson wasn't on hand to try on the costume Carol Danvers will be wearing once she joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some interesting information about the film was released thanks to Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed: Marvel Studios has selected a director to helm Captain Marvel.

Perhaps suffering a Freudian slip, Reed told pop culture website Vulture that although a director had been selected, he was unable to release a name.

Widely reported last Fall, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had apparently settled on a short list consisting of Niki Caro, Lorene Scafaria, Rebecca Thomas, and Leslie Linka Glatter. Feige has said that finding a female director to bring Captain Marvel to life was of utmost priority.

While we wait for official word from Marvel on who will be directing Captain Marvel, we do know that Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman and Oscar-nominated writer Meg LeFauve (Pixar's Inside Out) have been tabbed to pen the script. Outside of her work on Guardians, Perlman currently writes Gamora for Marvel Comics.
