It's safe to say that one of pop culture's biggest rivalries has been between Batman and The Joker. The Caped Crusader has faced off against The Clown Prince of Crime for decades across various forms of media.
But, oddly enough, the duo have yet to officially square off in DC Comics' current live-action universe, the DC Extended Universe. While Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) did embark in an awesome car chase against The Joker (Jared Leto) in last year's Suicide Squad, the altercation ended with Joker driving the car into Gotham's river, causing Batman to need to save Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) while Joker escaped.
While the pair have yet to officially fight onscreen, Jared Leto provided fans with a taste of what that altercation would look like, courtesy of his Instagram. The art shows a shirtless Joker close behind Batman, with a long knife pointed at the hero's neck.
If you're hoping that this is a sneak preview of a future scene - from either Justice League or the upcoming Batman solo film - we have some bad news. A bit of Internet sleuthing reveals that the photo is actually a piece of fanart, but you can't deny that it's a pretty awesome one.
In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).
DC and Warner Bros. have a full slate ahead, with Teen Titans: The Judas Contract coming first on April 4, 2017. After that it's time for Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017. The Batman is expected sometime in 2018, with The Flash debuting on March 23, 2018. Aquaman is set for October 5, 2018, and Nightwing's solo feature is due sometime in 2019.
Justice League currently enjoys a 4.14 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings, which has climbed up more than a few points since the trailer released. Let us know how excited (or not) you are for it by rating it below!
