Brie Larson has spoken about the importance of being a role model in Hollywood, and now the Academy Award-winning actor will have a bigger spotlight to spread her influence when she takes on the title role of Captain Marvel.
But the future Carol Danvers had to do some soul searching when it came to accepting the role—as a generally private person she had to weight he increased exposure with the importance of the responsibility.
Larson told Vanity Fair the decision took her "a really long time" to make, especially with the secrecy surrounding the Marvel project and the their demand that she discuss the offer with no one.
"I had to sit with myself, think about my life and what I want out of it," Larson said to the magazine. "Ultimately, I couldn't deny the fact that this movie is everything I care about, everything that's progressive and important and meaningful, and a symbol I wished I would've had growing up. I really, really feel like it's worth it if it can bring understanding and confidence to young women—I'll do it."

And ever since she appeared in Hall H for Marvel Studios' panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2016 where her role was announced, Larson said the experience has been positive.
"[Marvel's] been very open to hearing my thoughts and my take on it, which has been great," Larson said. "I think that's why they cast me: I have a lot of similarities to this character… and they want me to bring that into the movie."
The script for Captain Marvel is said to be nearing completion, though everything can be delayed due to the impending writers strike. But with a scheduled release date of March 8, 2019, there is a lot of time for industry woes to be abated before the production is scheduled to begin—which should occur in February 2018.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has placed a lot of trust in Larson as the lead in their first female solo project, and the young actress seems poised to knock the role out of the park.
Captain Marvel is rumored to make her on-screen debut in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
