Microsoft's Halo franchise is about to get back into the media spotlight, as Microsoft and Shout! Factory have inked a deal to distribute both feature-length and anthology pieces on home video.

The company's deal covers multiple films in the Halo lexicon, including live action and animated releases. As a result, Shout! Factory will have exclusive home entertainment distribution rights to movies that include Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, Halo: Nightfall, Halo: The Fall of Reach and Halo Legends. These works will likely be reproduced as Blu-Ray and DVD releases, though no official releases were announced at the time of the press release.

"We are incredibly excited about this new opportunity with Content Media and Microsoft Studios. The Halo brand is synonymous with high octane action entertainment, and we look forward to delivering these thrilling properties to home entertainment shelves," stated Jordan Fields, Vice President of Acquisitions at Shout! Factory.

Jonathan Ford at Content Media added, "With its impressive effects, epic storylines and iconic characters, the Halo franchise is a stand-out performer globally, offering exceptional content to existing fans as well as attracting new generations to the Halo universe. We're very pleased to continue this ongoing success by partnering with Shout! Factory in a deal that will ensure Halo's potential is fully maximized across North America's home entertainment market."

More than likely, Shout! Factory will announce some kind of distribution plan as soon as San Diego Comic-Con in July, where the company usually has a large set-up for film fans, and also announces its future plans for the coming months. Special features could very well be added to each home release, considering that the company has full support from Microsoft on their releases.

There's also a pretty good chance that the films could get some sort of marathon on Shout! Factory's streaming services, which it airs over on its website. Nothing's been made official yet on that, but considering Halo's continuous popularity in the video game realm, it certainly wouldn't be a surprise.

We'll see where this partnership goes from here – and if any future Halo feature-length efforts get produced down the road.
