Much of the promotional material for Gal Gadot's new film Wonder Woman shows her covered in dirt - sword at the ready - she's a WARRIOR, the "Princess" part is secondary. Gadot, known now pretty much for her action roles, usually kicking butt, driving fast cars and leaving guys twice her size in the dirt. In the Fast and the Furious films, even when she's wearing heels she can outrun her co-stars. But before she was an action star, before she was Princess Diana of Themyscira - she was Miss Israel and competed in the Miss Universe pageant. (She also served two years in the Israeli military before that, but let's not let that ruin a good storyline)
So it shouldn't be too surprising when she appears on the cover of Marie Claire looking not just like a actress that knows how to be in front of the camera - but like a professional model (that's in her third trimester). That's not saying she lost any of her warrior edge:
From the Marie Claire interview: "When I first came to Los Angeles, I couldn't read people," she says frankly. "I always felt there was a subtext." It's an opaqueness absent in her home country, where unfiltered boldness rules the day. "In Israel, people have chutzpah," she asserts, raising a fist. "People take issue with it, but I'd rather have that than play games. Here, everyone's like, 'We love you; you're so wonderful.' I prefer to know the truth, not waste time."
Gadot, who spoke passionately at the United Nations when Wonder Woman was far too briefly made an honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls commented again on gender issues. "There's a long way to go until we can make gender a nonissue. I don't know if it'll ever happen. I'm hoping it will because life would be so much cooler and less complicated then. Also, for men, by the way."
