Potential Characters For The Marvel Cosmic Universe
Now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is in the rear-view mirror, James Gunn and Kevin Feige [...]
Beta Ray Bill
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has proven that audience can accept walking-talking animals, so why not introduce Beta Ray Bill?
A lot of the Thor mythos has been explained, so Bill has a way into the franchise. On top of that, he's got a story like Planet Hulk unfolding in Thor: Ragnarok. There are places within the MCU where Beta Ray Bill fits in perfectly. Why not use him?
As Thor's story winds down, Bill could become a good substitute for him. Let the horse-man enter and wreck enemies with a hammer of his own.
prevnextNova
Just like Beta Ray Bill, Nova has already been given an established backstory in the MCU. The Nova Corps already exist, and fans were disappointed that Richard Rider wasn't among the faces that debuted in Guardians of the Galaxy.
However, the set-up for the real Nova is now perfect. Since the Xandar, and Nova Prime, have become the protectors of the galaxy, they're a target. They will likely be a major threat to Thanos. If he destroys the corps, he sets himself up as a devastating villain, and gives the characters something to rally around.
He also gives a redemptive story for Richard Rider.
In the comics, the character is the last of the Nova Corps. Use that in the films, and he can become an integral part of the MCU going forward.
prevnextMoondragon
In the comics, Moondragon was a vital part of Drax's story, as the character was his daughter. They may need to change this for the films, but Moondragon is still worth having around.
The character is bound to a hellish dragon, and comes with a lot of interesting mythos. Honestly, there's an entire world that could be built using her tales from the comics.
The MCU could introduce Moondragon as a villain, and turn her into a hero. However, James Gunn could also bring her about in a giant plot twist regarding Drax. Let's say his daughter didn't die, or was revived, and is now used against him. What better way to make Drax one of the most compelling characters in all of Marvel?
prevnextSilver Surfer
There's very little explanation here. Everybody who loves Marvel comics wants to see the Silver Surfer in the MCU. However, the problem with the character's rights remain. Fox owns him, plain and simple.
Marvel could have to give up a lot to make some kind of deal for the Silver Surfer but, as the studios proved with Ego, it can be done. Why not trade the farm for a guaranteed home-run?
Surfer played a big part in the destruction of Thanos, he participated Planet Hulk, and he was even a Guardian of the Galaxy for a spell. The guy's fingerprints are all over the Marvel Cosmic Universe, so find a way to make it happen.
