Amongst all the controversy and hate, the Neflix's live-action Death Note still has an insane amount of hype. With the release coming in August, multiple images of the cast and characters from the movie have been popping up online. The other day, for instance, fans got a look at Light's legendary evil stare.

Nat Wolff will be playing Light Turner in the upcoming take on the popular anime, and it looks like he has been getting into character. A black and white photo with Wolff starting at Lakeith Stanfield, who will be playing L, looks eerily familiar to the anime. In the anime, Light is known for his creepy death stare. It looks like Wolff is attempting to looking at the source material as reference in this intense stare down.

Does that evil stare look familiar? This may not swing fans that are upset about "white washing" but it is definitely exciting to see that the actors are into their characters. It's definitely enough to get fans excited to see the face off between Light and L in the upcoming film.

You can read up on Death Note synopsis below:

What if you had the power to decide who lives and who dies? We suggest you obey the rules. Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

If the Death Note does well, it wouldn't be surprising to see sequels spin-out from the project. In Japan, 4 popular Death Note live-action films have already been made and date back to 2006. There is even a live-action musical based on Death Note, and plans are underway to bring the stage play to the U.S.

Directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch), Death Note stars Nat Wolff (Paper Towns, The Fault in Our Stars) as Light Turner; Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys, The Leftovers) as Mia Sutton; Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton, Dope, Short Term 12) as "L"; Paul Nakauchi (Alpha and Omega) as Watari; and Shea Whigham (Agent Carter, Boardwalk Empire) as James Turner. The film will be produced by Roy Lee (The Ring, The Departed), Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Sherlock Holmes), Jason Hoffs (Edge of Tomorrow), and Masi Oka (Heroes Reborn, Hawaii-Five-0).
