While there may have been characters and scenes both cut out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the film's writer and director James Gunn says that the version we saw in theaters was the director's cut.
Some recent movies — including a few in the superhero genre — released a special director's cut on home media, a version that seemed to be a more complete version than the theatrical release. Gunn says, however, that what we saw in the theater is the version he wanted.

"That is a director's cut," Gunn said as he responded to a fan's question on a recent Q&A on Facebook. "What you saw in the theater was a director's cut. Marvel never asked me to change anything."
As a matter of fact, Gunn and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige only disagreed on ten seconds on total time during the film. Gunn explained that the ten seconds were something he wanted and Feige eventually agreed to let it remain in the movie. He would not say what part of the movie the brief disagreement was over.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
