Watch out, Fox! The studio may be hitting big this year after the success of Logan, but Deadpool's creator isn't ready to give 20th Century Fox a pass just yet. Rob Liefeld thinks the studio is going to have to up its breadth beyond film and television soon, and the artist says Disneyland's Guardians of the Galaxy ride is to blame for the one-up.
Less than a week ago, Disneyland's California Adventure Park opened its thrilling Guardians of the Galaxy ride to the public. The free-fall attraction is housed in the old Tower of Terror area, and the ride takes attendees on an action-packed ride through the MCU's neatest easter eggs yet. The attraction's debut nearly put Disneyland at a standstill thanks to its massive popularity and even bigger lines. Now, Liefeld says Fox needs to catch-up with its theme park offerings.
Taking to Twitter, Liefeld commented on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride by nodding to its insane wait times. "The 5 hour wait for Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Disneyland is astonishing. Even more Marvel mainstream integration w/smash theme ride!" he wrote.
Continuing, Liefled then went on to say that Fox has its work cut out for them. "FOX has its work cut out more so than ever given that the Marvel Disney brands are part of Americana. Fitting that X-Men, again outcasts. Do not discount for a minute the importance of a strong Disneyland presence. No More Mutants, indeed."
And, of course, Liefeld said that a Deadpool attraction would be a first-choice for a ride. "A Deadpool ride would be great!!" he said.
Of course, the MCU does have an advantage when it comes to theme park affairs. Marvel was bought out by Disney several years back, giving the latter company the chance to build up superhero attractions at its parks. Disneyland is the first U.S. park under the brand to feature a permanent Marvel ride, but Universal Studios Orlando also features its own attractions. The park signed a contract with Marvel Entertainment years back which gives them exclusive superhero theme park rights on the East coast, and the agreement secures future X-Men rides as well. If Universal Studios wants to beat Disneyland at its own game, it might be time for the Floridian park to step up its X-Men game.
Just, be careful with a Deadpool ride. There is almost no way such an attraction could be made family friendly.
