Rocket League Set To Get Big Anniversary Update

This weekend has a lot of Rocket League action going on, as the Rocket League Championship Series Season Three World Championship is still going on in Los Angeles – and it seemed like the perfect spot to announce a new update for the popular sports/racing series.

Psyonix confirmed at the event that a new 2nd Anniversary Update would launch on July 5th across all platforms, and would bring with it some free goodies that fans will certainly appreciate.

First up, a new arena will be introduced to the game. Called Champions Field, it's a "standard, modern-looking stadium that will be available in Competitive, Casual and Private Matches," according to the company.

In addition, the start of Competitive Season 5 will take place on the same day, with all new esports-based competition for players to indulge in.

The game will also introduce a custom radio station called Rocket League Radio, which will feature 18 new songs from the Monstercat record label. Individual songs weren't listed in the press release, but more details should be revealed soon.

Two new Import Battle-Cars will be introduced into the game. The Animus GP and the Centio V17 will be introduced via an Overdrive Crate, which will be available as an item drop. New customization options will also open up alongside the cars, including Engine Audio (so you can change your engine noise), Goal Explosions (in case the default one wasn't enough for you) and Trails, in case you feel like modifying the smoke that your car leaves behind. You'll be able to earn these through a variety of selections and Crate drops following the course of each match.

Psyonix has also made note that a series of new Achievements and Trophies will be available as well. Again, they haven't been fully revealed, but more details should be available soon.

The second anniversary trailer can be found above, and gives you a sneak preview in terms of what to expect from the new vehicles and other stuff being added to the game. It's a teaser, to be sure, but should be well worth experiencing next month.

Rocket League is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
